Security costs money and so it comes down to the bottom line. Stores will accept some losses due to theft as long as they lose less money than they would have to spend to prevent it. It’s much the same at every store, not just Kmart. But they do spend some money on security. There is some video surveillance as well as security people on the floor. Not all the time or throughout the store but enough that repeat shoplifters eventually get caught.

And, umm, you kept those stolen DVDs? Tell the truth. What happened is, you and your brother, mentally ill or not, just made the costs for products go up because the store suffered a loss. I am very VERY surprised that the bar code detector did not pick up on the stolen merchandise rolling out of Kmart’s doors! So are you getting ideas on how to steal more without getting caught? I hope that you know that it might not turn out so well for you next time.

My mom used to be a loss prevention manager (ya know, the people that catch you shoplifting) at a kmart for over 2 years… they may have not caught you this time, but believe me, they WILL if you continue to do it.. The security probably just didn’t see you that time, but I wouldn’t press your luck.. They have cameras ALL over and they record everything and play it back later if they missed anything… Also, I am friends with the loss prevention manager at my work (i work at kmart) so I do know that if you go in there again, except to be watched CLOSELY..

Did you return the DVDs? No? Didn’t think so. So, you are guilty of being in possession of stolen property. Did your parents not raise you with any sense of morality or ethics? Obviously not as you don’t see anything wrong with your actions.

It’s people like you that force the stores to raise the prices the rest of us have to pay.

Take a long, hard look at yourself.
