  Athletes tape their wrists to provide more support. The wrist may have sustained an injury previously or it is just a precaution to reduce stress on that part of his body. In Ronaldo’s case he underwent surgery to put 12 pins in his left hand after he sustained and injury in July 26th of 09 during a match against Palmeiras.
