I used to have a collie-retriever mix, and she had what looked like crimped hair around her ears and maybe tail (don’t remember). Also, my boyfriend’s parents have a golden retriever that has the same trait. Just a thought that’s been bugging me.

some dogs’ coats are naturally crimped-looking all over (such as the wavy-coated retriever) if a dog like a flat-coated golden retriever is mixed with a wavy-coated retriever, or retains some alleles from a parent who was mixed with the wavy coat, the dog will have the features and build like a flat-coated retriever but have some wavy patches. it’s basically a little bit is the wavy gene in a pool of the flat coated gene- it pops up here and there
Dogs With Crimped Hair
My golden retriever has a “crimped” tail. It’s just natural.
My border collie has it too around her ears, back feathers of her legs & this fantasic fan like tail,it gets worse when shes been out in the rain!
my border collie mix has the crimp too, especially noticeable right after a bath..
it’s his ears and head.
Well..probably because they were bred to have long hair.
All Golden’s and Reteivers have that around their ears, probably lots of other breeds too.
So do St. Bernards and Newfies too. It’s in their genes to have this look about them.
It is how they were born. There isn’t really a real explanation.
