They are the weighing scales designed for weighing yourself, usually kept in the bathroom.

Kitchen scales on the other hand are designed for weighing food and are usually kept in the kitchen

Because scales only wiegh accurately on a completely flat surface so you can’t put them on a carpet. Most people only have the kitchen and bathroom as non-carpeted rooms and scales on thekitchen floor woudl be a tripping hazard. Also, people usually weigh themselves naked so the bathroom is the logical place to do it being private, and the place you visit at the beginning or end of the day when dressing or undressing.

To get an accurate estimation of actual weight it is best to weigh yourself with no clothes on. Most people are routinely naked at least once a day in their bathroom so it is where the majority of people weigh themselves.

Because they were invented for use when a house had a bath in a room and the toilet in a shed.
