At Walgreens, 4×6 prints are 19 cents per print. Everywhere I look (including the Walgreens website) seems to indicate that 5×7 prints are about 2$. I’m baffled by this and am sure I must be missing something. 5×7 isn’t a rare size or anything, is it? Are 5×7 prints actually over ten times as expensive to print? Do people really buy them? How is that possible? What am I missing?
Thank you!

actually 4×6 start at 39 cents per print in store, online they’re 19 cents. the paper that they print the 5x7s, 8x10s, 11x14s, etc on has a higher cost therefore anything over a 4×6 will be a few bucks. but there’s always coupons that you can use to save some money, just check the website, sign up for the email list, and check the weekly circulars, as well as the photo holiday book (available in store.)
Maybe they use cheaper paper for the more common smaller prints.
Mpix uses a pro paper for all of their products and a single 4×6 is 29¢ while a 5×7 is 99¢. The gap there seems more reasonable.
If the print shop you go to can’t figure out how to make a 5×7″ print from the largest picture size you submit then go to another shop. You shouldn’t be bothered by it at all and resizing should be the printer’s responsibility. If cropping is to be done, they will do it using their own good taste unless you instruct them on what to do exactly.
5 x 7 is actually a standard frame size & a standard portrait size but it’s not a standard snapshot size.
it’s just another way for them to get more money out of you. save your 5x7s for the really great pictures you like.
