  A simple replacement is simple syrup which is two parts sugar to one part water or other liquid. You can make the syrup even sweeter by adding more sugar. You just bring it to a boil until it is clear and then allow it to cool.

  Most restaurants probably have it and would probably sell or just give you some. Then again you can probably get some online.
