I heard that it’s a gay pride thing… which makes little sense to me.
Does anyone know where it originated, and the significance of it?

I got this from a website about the bracelets:
You’re out and about, you see a girl, you think she’s hot, but is she gay? Sometimes you know, sometimes you just don’t have a clue! That’s where the Purple ID comes in.
As with all that is good…it comes with a story…………..
This idea started in the US on Your Daily Lesbian Moment Blog and it’s spreading like a rumour in a dyke bar…
Given that we’ve spent time recently talking about defective gaydars, this idea has popped up just at the right time.
The idea is this….
-wear a purple string of yarn around your wrist to indicate that youre a gay girl/lady-lover (even if you identify as bi but want to attract the laydez)
-wear it on your right wrist for single
-wear it on your left for taken
-spread the word to your gay girls
All the infomation you will need on this link

I’ve never heard of the purple string bracelet idea. I think Flo got the answer right on the ball though. Just dropping in to say “Hey Amanda! How’s it going?”. *looks up* Why, hello Nick! 🙂

haha, cool [above].
but then every1 knows! how do I remain mysterious and keep the girls questioning? lol
I’ve never heard about it personally, but what I DO know is that purple is the color for bisexuality. it’s a mix of pink and blue. so … how it represents a lesbian, I do not know. I would have thought that pink would be for a lesbian, purple for a bisexual, blue for gay boys. 🙂
