What would be the theme of this poem?

This poem is called The Weaver, by Anonymous. I have to analyze it for school, and I have all but the theme. I have no clue how to pick a theme out of poems. What is the theme of this poem, and how did you find it?? Thanks 🙂

My Life is but a weaving

between my Lord and me;

I cannot choose the colors

He worketh steadily.

Oft times He weaveth sorrow

And I, in foolish pride,

Forget He sees the upper,

And I the under side.

Not til the loom is silent

And the shuttles cease to fly,

Shall God unroll the canvas

And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful

In the Weaver’s skillful hand,

As the threads of gold and silver

In the pattern He has planned.

He knows, He loves, He cares,

Nothing this truth can dim.

He gives His very best to those

Who leave the choice with Him.

The theme of the poem is that one should surrender to god. When your life seems full of trouble, you shouldn’t complain – just accept that this is god’s will for you:

The dark threads are as needful

It is a poem which reassures the speaker that being a failure is OK, because being a failure is what god wants.

This poem was not penned by an anonymous person, my Great Grandfather was the author. It was first published in the Commercial Appeal many many years ago. A reader must have copied it without placing his name on it, and from there it s been noticed, in error, “as anonymous”.

The true author is B.M Franklin.

We don’t know the reasons why for any little thing. But God knows the whole grand picture.
