  The Curtis parents have died in an auto wreck, and the court let Ponyboy and Sodapop, who were both under the age of eighteen, to live under the custody of their twenty-year-old brother, Darry. If they were getting along and Darry was taking good care of the boys as a father should be, they could live together. Otherwise, Ponyboy and Sodapop will be sent to a boys’ home.
