See, I thought it was 2, but a friend is telling me is actually 1 (something to do with the fact that it exists as a dihydrate CaCl2.2H2O). I’m so confused.

2 * 1 = 2
valence of Ca in CaCl2 = 2 (group IIA)
valence of Cl in CaCl2 = 1 (group VII B)
So, Ca (valence 2) combine with Cl (valence 1 ) to become Ca Cl2
2 Because the Ca, from group 2A on the periodic table, gives away two electrons to the Cl, one to each.
