$ = dollars (usually U.S. dollars, also written as:

k = thousand, as in
kilogram = 1,000 grams
kilometer = 1,000 meters, etc.
therefore, “$100K” =
one hundred thousand U.S. dollars,

$100,000U.S.
therefore, 1.2k = $1,200 = twelve-hundred dollars, or one thousand two hundred dollars

“k” stands for thousands. Thus, $ 1.2k = $ 1,200 and $ 789.9k = $ 789,900.
Simply move the decimal point 3 places to the right and drop the “k”, of course.
