‘Jodi’ means ‘pair’ in the Hindi language.

As in the movie, it means ‘couple’. So, ‘Rab ne bana di jodi’ means: ‘God made the pair/couple’. Theoretically, it would mean that because God himself made this couple, they are inseparable.

The word is also used in conjunction of nouns as in, ‘jooton ki jodi’ means: ‘A pair of shoes’.

It should be noted that ‘jodi’ is the singular form of the word. ‘Jode’ or ‘Jodiyaan’ would be used when refereeing to more than one pair.
