Eric Carmen describes the feeling well of a man who is physically and passionately attracted to a woman and wants only her.

The line that gives the most detail is towards the end where he says “Now did I catch you by surprise with my….”, meaning these two haven’t really been passionate and physical yet.

Perhaps Im thinking to far into it but oh well… hungry eyes= looking for love… hollowing out means removing them.. so if you have hungry eyes and somoeone hollows them out they are removing them from looking at others. It sounds negative but the rest of the song lyrics are about being in love with someone

It’s a popular song from the 80s, & I think the lyrics pretty much speak for themself. What’s not to get? A guy likes a girl so much that he can’t disguise his feelings for her when he looks at her.

    LUST.

Its from the movie “Dirty Dancing” so it probably has more to do with ‘love that can’t be’ than it doesn with ‘unrequited’ love.
