What does No Unlawful Contact mean?

What does No Unlawful Contact mean exactly? This is for Domestic Violence if that helps.

Update:

This is against my husband. I had an EPO for 5 weeks and just had court. I agreed to have him do 28 weeks of domestic violence classes and agreed to have the EPO change to No Unlawful Contact but I just am not sure what would be considered unlawful contact. This order is also for my 17 week old daughter. We have already had an argument and he then went and got our daughter and I said I was leaving to go to my mothers to get away from what could turn into a bad situation again and he turned away trying to keep my daughter from me! I freaked and demanded he turn her over to me. I am sure I looked possessed at the time but he did finally turn her over to me and I left right away!

It means just what it says. Stay away, don’t call, don’t write, don’t email, don’t text. Typically the defendant must stay at least 500 feet away at all times in addition to not initiating any contact whatsoever.

Be advised that in most states, should the victim decide to have contact while the order is in effect the other person can still be arrested. Let me repeat. It’s okay for the victim to contact the defendant but if she/he changes their mind at any moment and calls the cops then the defendant can be arrested for violating the no contact order.

    What Does Unlawful Contact Mean

It means the person shouldn’t do anything illegal, like harrassing the other person, stalking them, calling their employer or workplace, things like that. It makes it easier for the police to arrest the person for disobeying the order. On the other hand, it’s just a piece of paper: a lawful person will obey it, and someone who doesn’t follow the law won’t. Read “The Gift of Fear” for more information.

If a judge order someone to stay away, if they contact you it is unlawful

Sex with a minor is also another kind of unlawful contact

“No Unlawful Contact” is not the same as “No Contact”. “No Contact” is what others described above. “No Unlawful Contact” allows regular contact but prohibits threatening or assaultive behavior.

generally it means no calls, no harassing, no letters as well as don’t beat them or something. and you’re not supposed to contact him either.
