Does it mean that they are a little smaller than their stated size or a little bigger?

Attack,
Manufacturers cut the fabric for clothing in large stacks, some as high as five feet tall. The cutting instrument is similar to a saw standing vertically, At the bottom of the stack the fabric is cut the widest. At the top of the stack it’s the narrowest. So clothing from the bottom is slightly larger than the “true” size, and at the top it runs smaller than the true size. That’s why it’s so important to try on clothes before you leave the store.

It means that the manufacturer makes them a little bit smaller than the average for that size.
Like I am a size 0 in jeans,
and I tried on these one jeans, and they were way small.
They “ran small.”
I had to get a 5. 🙁

it means that the clothes may say medium on the tag but fit more like a small. so the clothes fit a little tighter than the size stated on the tag.

yup it means they run smaller than average. i work at a woman’s clothing store, but all our clothes run in junior sizes (run smaller). I’m usually an extra small in everything but our smalls fit me because they run smaller.
