    DL (Defensive line) means that he lines up nearest to the ball on defense. Defensive linemen are typically some of the biggest and strongest players on the field. They are in the “trenches” battling with offensive linemen every play. Some positions don’t have contact every play, but defensive linemen have the responsibility of protecting other players on defense from blockers, and making tackles before the offense can gain positive yardage. So, defensive linemen have one of the toughest jobs on the field.

    TE (Tight End) means that he is an eligible receiver that lines up close to the offensive linemen. Tight ends are typically very tall, strong, and versatile athletes. They have the duty of blocking defensive linemen and linebackers, and they also have to be able to catch passes.

    Positions In American Football

    Quarterback isn’t the hardest. The only reason they get attention is because the uneducated “fans” only get excited when they see 60 yard TD passes. Besides, the QB ALWAYS gets credited for wins, but the defense is always blamed for losses. In the NFL (note I am not saying at the high school or college level) all the QB has to do is throw the ball and hope it’s caught by his receiver. Everyone is so in love with the QB position that he can blame ANYTHING on his line or receivers and people will believe it. As for hardest position, I would say Left Tackle on offensive line. For one, it is much harder to not let a defensive lineman go without actually holding him than it is for a defensive lineman to bust through. I’ve played on both sides. And second, since there are rarely tight ends aligned to the left, it is YOUR responsibility to pick up any backside bandits (anyone blitzing the weak side) WHILE keeping control of the defensive end at the same time. Offensive Tackles (unlike Guards) have to work on agility too because Defensive Ends are very quick and agile these days, while Defensive Tackles are agile sure, but are mostly just brute strength.

    DL = Defensive Lineman

    TE = Offense – Pass receiver on passing downs, and blocker on running plays

    Without a doubt the toughest position is center. You control the offense, and you must be agile and powerful enough to accurately snap the ball, knowing that you will get smacked as soon as you release. Your duties are too numerous to mention, or rank.

    dl … means defensive lineman …. he’s on the front line of the defense .. trying to drive towards the QB. te …. is the tight end .. he is normally in the backfield … he can take a hand off from the quarterback and run … or he may fake … acting like he takes the ball from the quarterback .. then runs out to catch a short pass.
