Toilet seats keep breaking at the hinges…what can I do?

In the past few months I have bought 4 different toilet seats ranging from the cheap plastic ones to the last one which is a fairly expensive wooden seat with metal hardware. Every one of them has broken at the hinges including the one with metal fittings. Is there something I’m doing wrong here? I can’t imagine we’re sitting on it wrong! Is there a certain brand that’s a good one? What do I look for in a good one? I am really tired of replacing them all the time so any help would be appreciated.

Update:

Yeah, the metal thing that holds the seat to the hinges actually broke off. Sometimes the cheaper ones would get loose and I’d tighten them for a few times before they finally just broke. Maybe I should just use the litter box!

if the bolts on the hinges come with nuts, replace them with a wing nut instead, this will not cause them to become loose.

Lubricate the hinges with some WD40. If the hinges break it’s usually because of a build up of urine gathers around the hinges and makes it dry and rusty.

i’ve never had a toilet seat to break at the hinges, however, my current toilet seat sometimes gets loose and slides from side to side when you sit down. now thats very annoying!

take a look at this website or any website that sells toilet seats. look at the ratings on the different toilet seats and maybe you could choose a good toilet seat that way.

Also what do you think about my cat being an outdoor cat? He’s really crazy(not fixed yet, getting him fixed) but I had another cat that wasnt fixed and he wasnt that rambunctious. I’m afraid hell get hit by a car or a disease or ill never se him again or somthign and he hates collars.. whats your take? thanks!

That is a puzzlement. I just replaced one that had been on about 20 years.

I don’t know what you mean by breaking. Ours is always getting loose, but I just have to get new washers. That’s very strange that yours keep breaking..
