Today my 3mon. old puppy jumped out of my arms and landed on her face/neck area.?

If her neck or spine were injured would it be obvious? Would I be able to tell something were wrong or could the symptoms be masked? Right after she fell she yelped and cried for a little bit but after a minute or so she seemed fine and was playing with me. She still seems fine but I’m still worried. The fall was only about 2.5 ft and my floor is not very hard at all. I just wanted to know what symptoms are common for a dog neck injury?

Update:

Thank you everyone for your answers!! They were great and really helped put me at ease. My puppy is acting completely normal and acting just as energetic and playful as usual. My puppy is a pomeranian and still pretty small which is why I was so worried. I thought maybe since she is so small that she would be alot more fragile but she seems fine. Thanks for the helpful answers!!! 🙂

It really depends, when my dogs had puppies they took all sorts of tumbles and spills, if the fall, to you, didn’t seem that bad, I wouldn’t worry to much, just keep an eye on her, Puppies are like kids, they are not a fragile as people make them out to be, had it been a higher fall I would be more concerned, for example, an adult standing at full height, but if it was only two feet, she should be fine, especially if it is known to be a hearty breed, if it was one of those rat dog thinks that yip a lot, their bones are a lot lighter, but if it was something like, a lab, or a bulldog, or a retriever or something like that, it should be fine, the only signs i can think of, are watch for vomiting, disorientation or sudden loss of appetite, and energy. My new pup did the same thing, it startled her which is why she cried and whimpered, but within a few minutes, she was racing around again and fine.

I know how you feel. I have Yorkies and once my baby jumped out of my arms, landed on his face and yelped like an alarm, i started crying! But he was totally fine, after a couple minutes he was completely hyper and normal again. So i think it’s just like when we fall sometimes we get hurt badly and sometimes we cry for a couple mins lol. But if she’s running around and acting like her normal self she’s most likely fine. If you’re super worried you can take her to a vet and get a check up. Maybe massage her neck area and if she’s hurt she’ll yelp or snap at you, just an idea.

She would let you know by her movements being restricted and making whimpering noises if it hurts. Dogs, unlike humans, don’t tense up when they fall; consequently they come out unscathed from what look like bone breaking tumbles.

Callie was once chasing along with Dad’s three dogs in the Lake District on Walla Crag. She was doing the usual weimaraner play action of trying to nip the other running dogs’ ears. She didn’t even see the triangular rock she hit sideways on at speed. Her triple somersault through the air was quite spectacular but her landing terrible – she went down in a bundle of legs, fur and forward rolls. We were naturally mortified. She sat up, looked around, shook her head, got up, gave herself a full body shake (you know which goes right down to the tip of her tail) and set off after Moss’s ears again!

We just couldn’t believe it. She was as right as rain (as they say). Subsequently she’s fallen off a wooden bridge into the river below (again in the Lakes), and taken a header off a small ha ha when she wasn’t looking once more. Both with no injuries at all. Off the ha ha she landed chin first and slid to a halt spread eagled!

Dog’s don’t show pain. They have no facial muscles so they can’t smile either. They don’t make pain noises much because in the wild a predator would come and eat them. So go by the dogs behavior. If its doing all its normal things then its OK. If its just sitting or lieing around then you should take it to your vet.

It would be obvious if had hurt her neck or spine. If she is not whining or acting hurt- chances are she is’nt.
