My dog just ate 10 raw shrimp. These are the kind that are NOT precooked. What should we do?

The shrimp won’t cause your dog any sort of problem at all. Dogs are designed to consume raw meats. What may cause an issue is the shell and tail of the shrimps if your breed is a toy breed. The shells and tails can back up a small dog but if your dog is larger then the shells and tails will not cause a problem at all.

No need to go to the vet on this one but if you do have a toy breed, then just be aware of your dog’s GI habits over the next couple of days.

    Good luck!

shells are GREAT for dogs. Very nutritional and beneficial. I randomly feed shrimp… it’s kinda expensive, lol, but sometimes there will be a sale on older stock they are trying to clear out. HOWEVER, I work at a seafood restaurant, so several times a month I bring home a box of shrimp tails and crab leg shells that I have scavenged from co-workers eating their employee meals, and I feed just those to the dogs.

    Can Dogs Eat Raw Prawns

Stop worrying is what you should do.

Meats are safe to eat raw even for people, including chicken, if the meat is properly cleaned and handled. It’s gross, sure but the risk of sickness comes from the lack of cleanliness during processing with meats like chicken.

Fish and beef however, are almost always safe to eat raw, think sushi, carpaccio, very rare prime rib, etc.

Dogs have stronger intestinal tracts than we do, so if it’s safe for us, chances are it won’t affect him at all.

I wouldn’t keep feeding them to him because that’ll cost a pretty penny over time, but he wont get sick, unless of course, he’s allergic to shellfish.

Offer him some cocktail sauce to go with them.

(Sorry, a lame attempt at a joke). My puppy stole two pounds of large shrimp when she was six months old. He will be OK. The shells might be a bit difficult to pass tomorrow, but it will be OK. Raw food is really is best for dogs.

He’ll be fine. Dogs can handle raw meat surprisingly well (that’s what they ate before kibble, you know ;). He might have some loose stools just because he’s not used to it, but it won’t make him sick.
