My dog ate a nail file, 1/2 of it. Sand paper, thin layer and hard plastic center. Should I induce vomiting?

It’s a pink nail file (fine grit) over a thin foam center and harder plastic middle.

No, do NOT induce vomiting. Something like that could potentially cause more damage coming up than it did when she swallowed it. Call your veterinarian and ask their advice.

No never induce vomiting, your dog will be okay, sand paper is just that sand and the paper will dissolve and the plastic if chewed good enough will come out.

Now if your dog exsibits strange behavior like droolling or foaming at the mouth then seek the advice of the vet but your dog will be okay.

My dog ate a sander, not a nail file but a sander, sandpaper wrapped around a foam core, she ate 1/2 of it and pooped it out. So Im thinking that your dog probably won’t have too much trouble with 1/2 a nail file. My dog swallows rawhide pieces bigger than a nail file.

If he seems restless and vomits after each meal then seek a vet immedately. Otherwise, start checking his poop daily to make sure it passes.

Depends on the size of the dog. Any small breeds I’d consider veterinary advice, but if it’s a larger dog I would wait for any symptoms before worrying too much. It’ll probably just come out.
