marrying someone with a felony?

My boyfriend of 10+ years and I want to get married. 17 days ago, at age 18, he commited a violent felony. he was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping in new york state. he is not on parole or anything like that. we’ve lived together now for about 7-8 years. we have a daughter. i am a school teacher. what if any are the repercussions of marrying him for me and our little girl? he’s been working for a union for over a decade, so we don’t have job worries, we don’t need to own weapons, and yes i know he can’t vote. but what else? of course i’ll consult a lawyer before we get married, i’m just hoping to connect with someone with experience with this. abusive answers will be reported. thanks in advance.

Update:

mr g- do you know this to be fact, or are you guessing? thanks.

Update 2:

I am currently finishing my masters in education and will be certified to teach in May 2011. We have a daughter and have lived together most of the relationship. At age 18, he and 2 accomplices robbed a gun store and briefly kidnapped the clerk, then set ther clerk free without injuring him. Guns he stole are allegedly still unfound and on the streets somewhere. He served 6.5 years in federal prison. He was released after the clerk attended his parole hearing to tell the board how his codefendants wanted to kill him but my boyfriend would not let them, and he was set free. He spent 7 years on parole after his release. He has no other criminal record. We live in New York but would like to move to Florida when I finish with school. He is 35 now and I am 29.

I have know a lot of rehabilitated inmates now civilians and just as many who did not succeed except to go back.

You have a man who id his time, got out and stayed clean. He is not on parole which says even more for him.

NYC Law says under Corr Art 23A752 Unfair to discriminate against one who has done their time and paid their debt to society. Also 753 says if discriminated against one should tke into account age at time of crime, crime charged with, ect.

Knowing the Corrections field and inmates, your man has my respect for doing well. He was 18 at the time of the crime and is now 35 or 36.

I would safely say there is no problem to marry this man, you know him better then we do, it is your call. I would say your probably more to be ridiculed, as why you are not married and living together, especially from a school district, then anything in his past history file.

They say something about a good Conduct cetificate issued by DOC and as above stated they can in many states have all rights restored even owing a weapon, especially after 17 years of being out.

that’s “felon”. you could marry whomever you opt for. think of three times till now you marry a felon. And particular, it truly is going to in all probability screw up your job potentialities, plus an entire host of different issues.
