i want more floorspace in my room so i have room to do ballet, but the only way to do that is to put my bed the long way against he wall but to that in ANY angle it’s covering an outlet.
My mom told me i shouldn’t do this years ago because it could spark and my bed would be on fire and the whole house would burn down =/ but my mom says a lot of things like that like she used to not let me go to sleepovers because she was afraid “the furnace would blow up and we’d all die in a house fire” =pp.
I was thinking i could those plastic coverings into the outlets…like you know the childguard things so kids don’t stick their fingers into the outlets (we have plenty of those haha)…would this be ok or will my be randomly catch fire?
my friend always had her bed against an outlet so that’s why im not sure if my mom was eggardurating.
thanks =]]
btw thanks so much for everyone answering and yea it seems like it’d be ok if i just keep the plastic coverings on but i do want to make it more clear b.c idk if i did above but it would actually be like touching the outlet not just near it so i liked the answers that were saying your sheets and everything are against it and it is fine i feel a little beter about it now thanksss =]]]

There’s nothing about your bed covering up an outlet that could cause a fire, electric shock, or anything harmful, as long as you don’t have anything plugged into it. And, even then, the only concern is if the bed pushes against the cord and kinks it, or if you have a large current load on it and the cord heats up while touching your bed. I have all kinds of furniture in my house (chairs, sofas, beds, cabinets, etc.) in front of outlets and have never had a problem besides having it be harder to access the outlet to plug something in.
I wouldn’t put the light there if it is putting pressure on the connection. Like if the plug is being forced into an odd position, I’d move it. You could try one of those outlet extensions and plug everything into that.
I think the chance of that happening is slim to none, she sounds like my mom telling me these crazy things. I used to have my bed against an outlet with two things plugged in and i’ve never had an issue. I say go for it as long as you don’t plug in anything with frayed wires or something that look faulty.
My bed is next to an outlet, but i moved it about an inch over just in case.
The outlet cover is a great idea and if your mom is paranoid then you should out them on just in case!
putting a bed next to an out let is not dangerous as long as you do not plug any freyed electrical cord in to it.
I wouldn’t because it could spark and lite a fire on your bed. but if you put the plastic things in it, i think you might be ok.
