I currently own a JVC GR-DVL725u digital camera. i just recorded a 10minute long video on a mini dv tape. although i have no knowledge what so ever on how to put that on the computer so i can edit it on movie maker. i understand movie maker to the fullest…just not the camera. As an added detail there is a usb connection and a DV connection on the Camera, Thank you in advance for your help.
I do have a computer.. and movie making software. i just need to find out how to get the tape on the comptuer…i dont beleive i was specific enough, in my first question.

There is no such device. MiniDV IS already digital. If you capture it via FireWire to your computer, it stays digital. If you output via composite or S-video outputs, you’re dropping it to an analog signal. You can get an external video recorder such as a FireStore by Focus Enhancements, recording to either a hard drive or a CompactFlash card – but these are mainly for professional use, as they cost more than most consumer cameras. The extra time you use in capturing DV is time you save later on by not having to convert it in order to edit smoothly – that’s the drawback of all these new flash memory and hard drive cameras – they’re so compressed, the computer strains terribly to play back smoothly and do all the calculations.
