They change your braces colors each visit approximately every 2 months. Same thing happened to me, my ortho wouldn’t let me pick. the colors will not hurt, they just change the little rubber Os on your brackets. although, the “tightening” or changing to a stronger wire may cause soreness on your gums

    hope this helps =]

Here is an excerpt from my website, which answers your question:

    Monthly Adjustments

You will need to have your braces “adjusted” every 4 to 6 weeks. This takes only about 20 minutes. Contrary to what you might think, this does not involve “tightening” anything! When you arrive at your orthodontist’s office, the dental assistant will take off the old little rubber bands (ligating modules), then may also take off the wire. You now have the opportunity to brush and floss almost sans-braces. If you have an electric toothbrush, bring it to your adjustment appointment to get your teeth really clean while the wires and ligating modules are off!

Then, a new wire will be put on, and new ligating modules will be applied. This can hurt a little, more from the pressure on your teeth than anything. Personally, I’ve found that it’s worse on the top front teeth. But the pain doesn’t last long, only a few minutes, then you get used to it. If you’re sensitive to pain, take some Ibuprofen or pain reliever before your adjustment visit.

After an adjustment, your teeth can hurt for several hours to several days afterwards. This can range from that “hit in the teeth with a baseball” feeling to just a dull feeling of pressure. During these times, revert to your “soft food” diet and be good to yourself. By the time you’re ready for your next adjustment, your teeth won’t hurt at all.

Your orthodontist probably didn’t let you pick a colour yet because he wanted your teeth to get use to the braces first. Changing the settings of the braces too much is probably not a good idea at the beginning. I’m not a dentist but I’d say changing colors or in other words, changing your braces too often may result in extended time having braces. Depending on your orthodontist, I’d say you can change them at each appointment, but maybe take requests as well if they’re not too busy. Asking your dentist would be the best answer. Yes, I had braces before, just took them off a year ago.

Braces colors are only small rubber holding the ortho wire in its place over the braces and almost dose not affect the strength of the work ( unless you have a special elastic ortho work )

So, tell your dentist to change them when you like even if you have a special occasion you can chose something match

When I had braces, my appointments were usually 8 weeks apart. I changed colors every 8 weeks.

you may substitute the colour each time you get them tightened. Oh and while your getting your braces on it won’t harm lots, whether it in simple terms especially feels uncomfortable…yet that’s in simple terms me. it’s going to be sore for some days.

Unless you have a special type of braces, they should take your request. Basically, they’re just tiny rubber bands that are put on the bracket.

    Hope this helps! =)
