I was assaulted, robbed and set on fire nearly 10 weeks ago and I have received little information from the police what they have told me is that there waiting on forensics to come back they say it can take 7 to 8 weeks for them to get this information but I was attacked 10 weeks ago is this normal?

I must agree with the other posters on this answer. It normally takes months to get results on any tests that are not performed “in-house” (ie: fingerprint identification). I have seen tests such as DNA take years if the offender’s profile is not in the database. Our Crime Lab sends most of the intricate testing to the State Lab, which is overworked and understaffed. On priority cases, such as homicides with unknown suspects, we send it to a private lab for very quick results. Due to the extremely high cost of private lab work, this can only be done in certain situations.
Unlike on TV crime labs are notoriously underfunded and understaffed. I’ve had DNA, with bad guy in custody, take 9 months.
Latent print info takes little time but anything, other than narcotics, that needs analysis can take a very long time.
Narcotics are easier because you usually know what you are looking for and the feds heavily funded the lab processing in the past.
Depending on what type of forensic evidence it is then it can take a number of weeks, 3-4 months is not unusual.
Depends on what forensic testing is being done, and if there are offenders already arrested.
Months is the norm, at least 2-3 months for fairly simple cases.
