    Actually, since the panda is not native to Japan, it doesn’t really have a native Japanese word. You say “panda”, and it’s written パンダ — in katakana, not hiragana.

    There’s a word 熊猫 (くまねこ), meaning “cat-bear”, but it’s obscure. A Japanese would simply say panda.
