Father/Daughter wedding song for estranged relationship?

I want to do a father/daughter song, but my father and I really don’t speak. What would be a perfect song for an estranged father?

Update:

My mother raised me from the age of 11. My father is in and out of my life. He will be at my wedding and I do want to dance with him. Our relationship ain’t peachy and I don’t want to be fake about it.

Here are a few songs that I can think of that might be appropriate. You may want to ask your DJ if they have any suggestions. They might know the perfect song for this instance:

    Smile – Nat King Cole

I Hope You Dance – Leann Womack

    Landslide – Fleetwood Mac

She’s Leaving Home – The Beatles

    Daughters – John Mayer

I Wish You Love – Natalie Cole

Oh How The Years Go By – Vanessa Williams

    Tiny Dancer – Elton John

    My Girl – The Temptations

If you’re not close to him and you don’t want to make anything seem fake, it strikes me as odd that you are choosing to have a father/daughter dance since that means that you do have a close relationship.

You could keep the song very generic such as Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance”. While the song “Because of You” by Kelly Clarkson does fit with your situation, it’s not the most appropriate choice.

Your wedding day is a day to forget past hurts and resentments. Whatever song you choose, flow with it and let bygones be bygones with your Father. It is also an occasion to reconcile with your Father and renew your relationship, so don’t put too much into it with choosing a song..the song does not count, it is the attitude between Daughter & Father.

I dont know…thats a tough one. i cant really suggest a song cause all the ones that i can think of are really personal between a father and daughter. But in whatever you choose remember he is your father and no matter how many mistakes he has made not being there for you, he still loves you!

Good Luck and I hope it all turns out good!!

Do something that focuses more on you than the relationship between a father and daughter. Something like “Brown Eyed Girl”, “The Way You Look Tonight”, or “Isn’t She Lovely”

It’s a beautiful world by Louis Armstrong

haha, i asked this same question a week go 🙂

“dad isn’t walking me down the isle, father daughter dance?” was my question title…

i picked a slow song but doesn’t even relate to my dad in no way possible. lol it’s called “old blue chair” by kenny chesney. it’s not country sounding, but it’s slow and sounds really nice…and no one can ever really hear allll the words…

my other option was “cowboy in me” by tim mcgraw. the first few lines are “girl u know there’s times you must have thought, there ain’t a line you’ve drawn i haven’t crossed.”

dont do “because of you” by kelly clarkson- it’s a horrible song no matter who the father is…

If you don’t speak with him, are you looking for a song because you want to or feel obligated to?

Maybe “you are so beautiful” by joe cocker?

if you don’t speak, is there a point in having a father/daughter dance, other than tradition? are you trying to rebuild your relationship? is the relationship worth rebuilding? is what he did to make you not speak to him, forgivable?
