Please tell me that somebody out there knows how to get the smell of rotten watermelon out of carpet!!?? Two nights ago, I had a watermelon sitting on my dining room chair when I discovered it was dented. As I was investigating, I heard the sound of dripping. Turns out my watermelon had rotted, and was dripping all over my CLOTH chair and onto the carpet!! That smell is the worst smell I have ever smelled in my entire life!! Needless to say, I threw the whole chair in the garbage! But no matter what I do, I CANNOT get that SMELL out of my carpet!! I smell it everywhere!! What can I do?? There HAS to be something that will get it out!? PLEASE HELP!!! I’M DYING HERE!!!!! Thank you so much!
P.S.–I did NOT just let the watermelon sit there and rot! It had only been there for the day. I had planned on cutting it up that evening. It must have been bad when I bought it.

First, blot up any wetness that remains. Use a clean white cloth and some pressure … keep turning the cloth until nothing wet is coming up.
Next … 2 options. You could try some distilled white vinegar/water in a 50/50 mix. Spray it on, blot it, spray, blot …
But I’m thinking the gakky watermelon juice probably soaked through to the carpet pad. If that’s the case, you’ll need to use something stronger. Try Nature’s Miracle. It’s a pet-stain remover that uses enzymes. It’s meant for removing (obviously) pet stains, but it works on ‘human’ stains, too … including vomit. Which is … food, right?
There are other enzyme cleaners, but Nature’s Miracle is the most widely-available (buy it at any pet store). Follow the instructions EXACTLY … you have to saturate the area, using enough to reach the carpet pad. Then you have to let the area dry on its own … which can take days, a week, or longer. And it smells VILE while it’s working … but it DOES work.
Rotten Watermelon
The smell is no longer in your carpet, but it is now in the padding underneath. Keep in mind, if you have a spill that is the size of let’s say a quarter, it is more like the size of a dinner plate in the pad ! It really spreads ! The best solution is pull back the carpet, and remove the saturated pad. Go buy a piece of pad from a carpet place, and put the carpet back. Problem solved. Typically you can contact a carpet store and get an installer to do all of it in a couple of hours for relatively cheap. Good luck!!

DEpends on what the smell is from. If you use vinegar make it half vinegar and half distilled water in a squirt bottle. If you use baking soda it will take a few days and require a vacuum to clean up. Personally I would use one of the carpet cleaners for pet stains, they remove stains and smells of just about anything.
Take a box of baking soda, and sprinkle liberally, leave over night and vacumn. Then you may try scrubbing bubbles and a scrub brush, and rinse with a sponge. Nothing works like baking soda
Sonya, you have to fight fire with fire bad smells call for even worse smells. Take a giant dump in the watermelon chair and just leave it. IF it is big enough of a dump you will become overwhelmed by the the incredible stench and find yourself actually starting to miss the smell of rotting watermelon.
By the way, Who lets 10 pounds of fruit rot in one their dining room chairs?
