my sister and I were talking about animals and we were wondering if you have a fish, does it need a hole at the top for air??

Fish tanks are the only kind of cage I use. They need a wire top though and you must be careful. With gerbils there can be too much space. A ten gallon aquarium is plenty big enough for two or three gerbils. A 15 gallon long tank is good for 3 or 4 gerbils. Anything bigger and you could run into problems. So, if the cage is 15 or 10 gallons then it will be fine. If it’s bigger than I don’t suggest using it and it must have a wire top otherwise there are ventilation problems. If you have any other questions feel free to message me.

No you dont need a hole at the top of an aquarium, if you have plants that puts oxygen into the water, or if u have an air pump that does the same thing.
By the way fish dont live in cages, they live in fish tanks also known as aquariums

Yes, fish do need air to live. And I’m pretty sure you mean fish in an aquarium!! But anyway back to the question, fish do need air. Based on my experience all my fish that have lived ina little bowl have only lived a short life. But when I bought all the right stuff that actually could cost a lot, my fish lived fairly long.

If u have fish in a cage u have issues cuz they need an aquarium. But they do need air in the water which is why aquariums have a device that blows bubbles into the water. If you just a goldfish or too, when you change the water regularly, u are basicly putting air into the water then. So yes they do need air.

Yes, the tank has to be relatively well ventilated.
You will also need an air pump as fish really breath air filtered out of water. If you’ve ever one fishing and you thought the fish you had caught would die from being ot of water but it didn’t die, then you’ve witnessed this.
Hope I helped!

Yes, depending on the kind of filtration you have (OBF, like penguins, pretty much add Oxy into the tank by them lonesome)
Bubblers (Personally not my fav) are also used. Water can have a imbalance of Oxy, and in turn suffocate your fish. They breathe oxygen simply put – so when they take in water they take the oxygen out of the water, and if you don’t have oxygen flowing in… Then they die

first of all fish don’t live in cages. they live in tanks. And it doesn’t need a hole at the top of tank for air as long as you have all the equipment.

yes, but if you have a hood on top, it will provide space for external filters, heaters, feeding, and so air will come through. but you can also have an air pump!
even fish need oxygen.

Well, the tank can have a top, but it still needs to have some sort of ventilation.
