Did you ever purchase a puppy from Rainbow Park? Did your dog turn out to be okay?

http://rainbowpark.ca/

I purchased a pure bred terrier and a mix breed from Rainbow Park some time ago. The pure bred terrier has good temperament. Very athletic and loves to please you. The mix breed (Shih-poo), however, was kept in a play-pen until she was 6-month-old (that’s the time we purchased her). She was stressed out and traumatized, and never recovers from it totally. Now she is 2 and she still has huge anxiety issues. I heard from a few friends that Rainbow Park is supposed to be very good and they have been in business for many years. I am just wondering whether I am the only unlucky person. If you have a dog from Rainbow Park please share your experience with me. Thank you!

Update:

They do have a health guarantee for one year (just not mental health guarantee… sigh…) This is a quote from their website:

“At Rainbow Park The Puppy Place we specialize in small non-shedding creatures and we guarantee every puppy we sell!. We do not breed at the park as all our puppies are home raised with families, allowing for socialization and protection from disease. We have our own committed breeders, all of whom have a long standing relationship with RAINBOW PARK thereby preventing the “puppy mill” aspect of the dog world. We have been dealing with dogs since 1976 and have perfected our public relations and breeding stock to where we stand today…”

Update 2:

They do have a large running area outdoors for terriers and their Goldendoodles. They get enough socialization with other dogs and they turn out to be okay. Only the ShihPoo was traumatized.

i just looked at their website:ok,they purposely mix/cross purebred dogs?!then tell people its a new super-breed/designer breed!

your dog is traumatized, because the “breeder” could not sell him for 6months and poor dog was a shut-in.

a good breeder would socialize a puppy if he cant sell the pup by 8-10weeks.i go to a lot of dog shows,i see breeders, who bring young dogs out to walk around and meet people, see and smell new things.

Rainbow Park is a dog manufacturer, not a breeder.

    Hello

I purchased my girl from Rainbow Park in July of 2004 she is the love of my life but has had a few issues, she has a collapsed Tricia, when she was 6 both back knees had A Luxating Patella Problems surgery was $5,000 she was good for many years but Now that she is 11 both front shoulders and elbows have DJD. Some days she is fine but more often limping on her right leg. Some days she runs like a puppy and other days has trouble with steps or hesitates jumping of my bed ( which I try to prevent or help her with) so you can see I’ve had some health issues. But I have no regrets, she has brought me so much happiness and everyone loves her, i always get stopped and have to explain what an EskiTerriPoo is….lol. Yorkie / American Eskimo/ Poodle .

Just love your dog no matter what!

    Can you say ‘puppy mill’?

There is no way I would even consider buying a puppy from them. They breed mixed breeds, give them fancy names, and sell them on a ‘first come first serve’ basis – meaning that it doesn’t matter if you’re a suitable owner, as long as you’re quick.

Look how many litters they have at the moment. They can’t properly care for them all, can they? Most reputable breeders only have one, maybe two litters at a time, and the same number of breeds they specialise in – not ten litters and any number of breeds.

All in all, you are not an unlucky person (perhaps just an uneducated one) – this is a puppy mill, and therefore they don’t properly care for their dogs the way a responsible breeder would, and problems are almost sure to arise.

We purchased our Goldendoodle Buddy from them almost 12 years ago. Had I known about puppy mills back then I wouldn’t have gone through them. We were very lucky, Buddy is wonderful. When we got there to pick him up we were led to a room full of pens with all sort of mixed breed puppies. In hindsight they are a puppy mill. If you are a reputable breeder then you only breed a couple of litters a year. They are puppy brokers and who knows where they get them from. Can’t find their website anywhere, so hopefully they have stopped selling puppies.

And every part of that quote is complete and utter BULLSH*T. They are a petshop/puppymill. If they aren’t breeding their own animals they are getting them through a puppy broker. Those animals ARE NOT socialized in a family environment.

Both line they are in the business of making money and that means doing whatever possible to make the sell, including flat out LYING. Being is business for years does not make them great. Trust me other people have had problems with .

the ONLY reason they haven’t been run out of business yet is because they probably run a “clean” puppy mill. They can pass inspections doesn’t mean they need people continuing to give them business. Non shedding animals my butt. ALL dogs shed, some less than others.

We purchased our She-Be (shitzu/Bichon) puppy from Rainbow park at 8 weeks and have had the best dog we could ever ask for. He’s 10 years old now and we love every minute we have with him. He had no issues and trained quickly. He’s friendly and smart and does not shed. All these people that say there is no such thing as non shedding dogs are wrong.

Absolutely. There are zero breeders within four provinces of me that are producing what I want. Since going to the closest province is about as close as going to the US, I don’t see the difference. I would also love to have the ability to purchase from a Czech or German breeder, however, that is slightly more complicated. Both of my German Shepherds were purchased (not by me) through a broker who purchased the dogs from overseas. One of the brokers is from the US. I would go that route again as well. Of course, I am completely expecting TDs.

Uh… that’s a PUPPY MILL. No wonder you’re having problems. No halfway decent breeder would keep a puppy in a pen until it was six months old! *sigh* Plus, no halfway decent breeder has that many puppies or that many kinds of puppies!

Next time, if you want a mixed breed puppy, just head to your local shelter. They have tons.

I purchased a dog from them years ago….I wish I had known about puppymills back then , walking into the barn like building with pens of different breeds of pups everywhere….No parents of dogs anywhere . We picked one and had to return him in the next couple of days …so sick , she said pick another and I told her NO I want this one healthy and no vet will touch him because they know the name Rainbow Park and the dogs come from Puppy Mills in Bancroft. She nursed him to health , but he was ALWAYS sick and went suddenly blind one day ! NEVER SUPPORT THIS BUISNESS THEY ARE GETTING PUPS FROM PUPPYMILLS .
