Can someone give me a good visual description of a dark cave?

This is a description that I would use if I was writing a story.

I took one look at open mouth of the cave. Its darkness seemed to envelope me in a never ending fortress of mystic. I stepped inside. My breathing slowed as I tried to take in more of the stale, humid air. I used the rough cave wall to guide me through it. I could hear a soft dripping noise as dew slid of the rocks. Drip, Drip, Drip, like a heartbeat. Spires of rock hung from the ceiling and stood erect upon the floor. A soft squeak alerted me to the presence of either mice or bats. The chilly draft sent shivers down my spine.

This is a regular description: Humid, dark, rough, either black, brown, or grey stone with an assortment of small animals unless its home to a bear, wolf, ect. it usually has pillars of stone shooting down or up depending on location. I hope that helps.

I’ll just write this from first person.

I slowly stepped into the cave, around me is the sound of water dripping from the stalactites hanging above. My footsteps send an echo through the open space; probably the unseen result of the fact the cave must be fairly large.

I hear the flutter of wings above my head and a small squeak as a bat dive-bombs past my head, it’s hog-like face barley visible in the fading light as I step farther inside of the beastly cavern.

My foot suddenly catches on a rock and with a small shriek I fall to the floor, my hands landing on slippery limestone worn away by the ages of water rushing through the cavern. I breathe a sigh of relief as I stand, knowing this is only the beginning.

Sorry, I got all author about it, but hope you like it! 😉

I walk hesitantly into the cave. I am disoriented as my eyes adjust to the darkness I hear a faint dripping sound that seems to echo away from me for miles. I begin to walk, wearily, forward, and my feet feel like suction cups to the wet mud on the ground. It is warm in the cave, yet a cold shiver runs up and down my spine. I hear squeaks, but echo makes it nearly impossible to be able to tell where they are coming from. I take a few more small steps forward to hear flapping wings. I scream. Despite the utter darkness, i see movement of maybe a hundred small animals. Bats. There are so many of them flying toward me. I brace myself, expecting to be hit, but they all fly above me. It was only then that i realized that the bat’s weren’t flying towards me, but away from.. It. There is something in this cave, and i’m going to find out what.

I don’t know if that was what you were looking for, but feel free to use it. I just got my creative juices flowing and got lost in the story.

I’ve been in a cave without lights on, and it’s the blackest black I’ve ever experienced. You open your eyes, and close them… and there is absolutely no difference in what you see. It’s amazingly claustrophobic; even though you know you’re in an open cavern, it feels like someone can be RIGHT next to you and you can’t sense them there.

A single light, even a match, will seem bright in a cave. It’s impossible to tell if an area bathed in shadow will lead to a tunnel, or is simply a wall hidden by darkness. You have to move your light, or have multiple lights at multiple angles to know that nothing is hiding in the darkness.

The cave was so dark I could hardly see my hand in front of my face, but you could tell it went on for ever by the steady echo of water dripping of the jagged roof. The floor was uneven and sharp, I could hardly walk across it with out stumbling and falling. I felt like I was walking deeper and deeper into the mouth of a terrible animal, I could almost hear it breathing.
