Yes parakeets can eat meat and fish such as tuna because they are omnivores. However, meat and protein based sources such as eggs need to be served in small quantities and only about 5% of the birds diet. The meat needs to be well cooked as well and without spice.
Parakeets as well as most birds need to have a combination of food that include berries, vegetables, fruits, seeds, and protein. However you need to avoid things such as chocolate and avocado as these food items kill birds.
Below are several references that outline what you can feed your bird and prove that you can feed your parakeet meat.
Yes, they can have meat & they won”t die. You would only want to give them small amounts once or twice a week. I have 4 Budgies & I give them small pieces of chicken periodically. They are not vegetarians, they are omnivores. Also small portions of beef, no fat. They not only like it, they love it. They can eat almost everything we eat, with the few exceptions of onions, avocado, chocolate, alcohol etc. .An all seed diet will shorten your birds life span. Too fatty, can cause tumors. People do your homework before you give anyone advice. I have & my birds eat very little seed. Fruits, veggies, beans, sprouts and yes, a little meat occasionally. They are happy & very healthy. If you want to change your birds diet, start by putting new things in their food dish, that way they see it as food. I tried hanging kabobs in the cages or clipping veggies in different places, nothing worked until I put the new food in their dishes. It s fun to watch these little creatures try new food..
