No. Some gangs just happen to have area code tattoos to represent where they’re from, but that doesn’t mean vice versa is true. Having an area code tattoo doesn’t make you a gangster.

EDIT: alright I’m from OAKLAND, and I see people with 5-1-0’s all over the place, but some are like middle aged black women. Some are white guys in their 20s. I mean, they could be gangsters, I don’t know, but like I said, area codes are not gang affiliated. Gangsters have them, but c’mon, there’s like 400,000 people in Oakland, you expect a couple people having 510’s on their wrists to own all of oakland? Yeah I don’t think so

Area codes are a trend right now, and they’re always changing. When I grew up, my house changed area codes 3 times. It’s “cool” now and may be of significance to you sure, but be sure it is not something you will regret. People will look at an area code and not think of gangs, but may think that you are trying to be trendy and could regret this decision later, which is why people like the one guy who already answered would think you’re an idiot. Yes. They definitely are. Im from the Bay Area not far from you so I know how it is over here. They may not have a specific gang but lots of gang members have them. Also, the cops see it as that also. No matter what you say they will not believe you. Remember if you you act like something people are going to see you as that.

Area code tattoos, tattoos that specifically mark the city you are from, are associated with prison work quite often, but there are exceptions. Some folks are just proud of where they are from. But generally, area codes are a lockdown type tattoo, typical of jailhouse work.
