How much does 6 pounds weigh in comparison to some everyday objects? Because i want a new laptop that’s REALLY good and yet very well priced at $1200 but it weighs 6.4 lb. I’m getting this computer for school so i may need to carry it around. Do you think 6.4 lbs is too much?

A 16 oz can of beer weighs about a pound. 2 liter soft drink bottle weighs about 4 lbs. A gallon of water weighs over 8 lbs (8.35).
What I’ve found over the years is that it isn’t the laptop that’s killer, it’s all the various stuff you’ll put in the bag with it. For instance, it would be somewhat foolish to go out without the laptop’s power supply/charger. They’re anywhere between 1 to 2 pounds. You may have some notebooks, textbooks, a water bottle, etc. You might carry an external drive of some sort. You may carry some disks, perhaps a camera, MP3 player, phone, keys, etc. Finally, there’s the weight of the carrying case itself. Leather is attractive, but it’s heavy.
Anyway, by the time you get done, what you thought was going to be a 5 pound load weights 12 pounds. So, a pound more or less on the laptop itself probably shouldn’t be a deal-breaker. What’s more important in a portable is battery life. The thing will get REAL heavy if you have to carry it and you can’t even use it <grin>
No that’s less than average weight for a laptop, even if it doesn’t include a one pound battery. A heavy book weighs about 5 pounds.
6.4 lb isn’t that bad. It’s maybe approximately equal to the weight of 2 average sized textbooks (or one hefyy one, like a big biology book).
1 gallon water = 5 pounds approx
It’s lighter than a new born baby (which average about 7lbs), so by itself you could easily manage to carry it around. But you’ll have to consider what else you’re carrying to school with it.
1200 is a lot for a lap top.
6 lbs.. umm.. a chihuahua.
or a basket full of kittens.
Bag of sugar or flour is 5#
